Choose the map (*.mpr) you like and be sure it doesn't have units that might conflict with your new ones. Copy the map in Explorer and paste into the Westwood/Sun directory. Rename it to your new name. Now double-click on the new map. Open it with Wordpad if prompted to choose a program. Scroll down the text to find [Basic] section and find the entry for Name= and change it to your new map name. Close the file and save. This should be all of the manual editing needed for most changes. Now your map is ready to receive your changes.
Make your changes or additions in tibed, then select from the tool bar File > Save Changes to Map. Find the Sun directory and select your new map. You're done. I recommend you save your changes now as a *.tib file, by selecting File > Save As.. so you can add these changes to another map later. It also help to fix bugs if the units don't do what you intended.

No disrepect Stinger, manually is faster but not easier
