When you try to load a .TIB file, TibEd crashes? How is the file format configured under Preferences/File Format?
Could you send me one of those files which crash TibEd?
Importing a mod from the game wasn't designed to be used for loading/saving mods, you should import once and use .TIB file format instead (because I can't guarantee that the import routine is perfect). Since that doesn't work for you, it should be repaired.
